Statement on the retirement from Cabinet of Bill Johnston

30th of November 2023

The Shadow Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Energy Dr Steve Thomas has congratulated  and thanked the Minister for Energy Bill Johnston for his strong contribution to Western Australian public life as Mr Johnston announces his retirement from Cabinet.

“Bill Johnston earned a reputation amongst the energy industry as a Minister who had a great  passion for the portfolio and an enormous knowledge of how it worked” Dr Thomas said.

“Bill was widely respected as someone who took a keen interest in energy, and this was well  demonstrated in the consultation and interaction he had with industry players.

“I wish Bill the best in all his future endeavours.

“The departure of such a well-respected and knowledgeable Minister obviously leaves big  shoes to fill.

“The energy transition – which the Government appears to be trying to rebrand as an “energy  transformation” – has a long way to go.

“Bill Johnston understood the shortfalls of the current plan in a way that the policies advisors  in Premier and Cabinet did not, and they will miss his practical and informed approach.”

Ends.
